trapped in the middle. retreating is not an option, advancing... well, advancing takes something. where you are is comfort zone. stay there forever?

charity
Sunday, July 30, 2006, 11:40 PM
went to charity fiesta at jurong east today! there was a corner where people wrote their wishes on pieces of paper, very simple things like an ez-link card, popular bookstore vouchers, rice cooker, blender etc.
how fortunate are we, that these small things which seem to be so ordinary to us, mean so much to others. i think it's gratifying for us more fortunate souls to do what we can to help those in need. we bought an ez-link card for some chap named andrew. hope we touched his heart, and in any event possible, that he pass the act of kindness around. as far as possible though, i prefer to 出力 than 出錢, so much more meaningful. the world's a good place.
quit chasing what's never going to stop for you.

happy bday wy!
Saturday, July 29, 2006, 10:56 PM
happy birthday weiyang!well, because my handphone's camera sucks (esp. with night mode on), so the pictures quality isn't that good, but hey, it works! theng should really charge his digicam before going out next time. -nods-
we actually planned to give weiyang a surprise by buying him the contact lens (jj and shui actually tied down with the shop lady) but that scheming lady spoilt our plans. she's just eager to do business!

bday boy!

jj and me

shuiling and me
kenneth, jj and me
that's dennis
theng and me!
actually, theng and weiyang looks quite sian while we were at eski bar! so i guess we can't bring them to bars next time.

superpower
Friday, July 28, 2006, 8:26 AM
if you had a choice of superpower, what will it be?
i want something simple (okay, maybe not so). i just wish i have the power to know how people think. homo sapiens are probably one of the most enigmatic living creatures. sometimes they do things, say things for an obscure reason, or none at all. these often leave me pondering... to what end? i may never know the answer anyway. still, my mind continue to probe, hoping to catch some hint of meaning, and only has it dawn upon me that hours have been wasted the next moment my eyes set upon the clock.
but i guess that's the magic of life isn't it. you just can't know everything you want to. C'est la vie! nonetheless, this is just a thought, so i'll still want to know how people think.
many months in the army, and now i find it hard to pen my thoughts. pffft.

love people, use things - not the other way round
Tuesday, July 25, 2006, 7:50 PM
this incessant coughing reminds of the infamous tekong cough, which plagued me for months. i can only pray that it won't last that long this time. somebody make it stop!
was chatting with my S3 today, and he shared a philosophy of life he TRIES to live by.
'love people, use things - not the other way round'
as with all the other quotes (alot, i noticed) i've posted previously, i'm not going to write an essay on it, since this isn't GP or anything. just wanted to share, and to remind myself whenever i read back.

void

'i didn't lose my way, i just changed how i want to get there'
sat in a honda integra today, albeit driven by a rookie driver. it's powerful! almost makes me feel like getting a sports car in future, but nah, i think i still prefer a luxurious family car, for now.
i need something to fill that void.

tribute
Saturday, July 22, 2006, 5:51 PM
courtesy of pplive, i've been able to rewatch many old movies. ah, nostalgia. anyway, here's a quote right from one of the movies i -just- watched, really touching...
this movie is such a tear-jerker, and comes ironically from one of the greatest (imho) comedian of all time, stephen chow. 大話西游之月光寶盒 / 大話西游之仙腹奇緣愛. catch it if you have a chance!
back to the quote. too often we never cherish the things before us, and only realize how much they mean to us after all is lost. why should we live with such regrets? ... we shouldn't. let's learn to appreciate what we have, rather than take them for granted. i'll start...
i'm thankful i have such great parents, though i've never told them i love them, i do!
i'm thankful i have a sister who bugs me for help, because that means i can bug her for help when i need it.
i'm thankful i have a brother i can order about.
i'm thankful for all the wonderful time we have had together. i cannot even begin to fathom what it will be like, when we no longer stay together.
i'm thankful to have so many marvelous friends, i don't know what my life will be like if you people never barged in.
right, this entry's a tribute to all you family and friends out there who mean something to me. you know who you are!! ah, life's good.

perfect opportunity
Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 9:00 PM
alright, i'm done with all that redundant formatting. instead, i shall rattle incoherently, abandoning comprehension for convenience. it's my blog after all, for now at least. heaven alone knows how long it'll last.
heard a quote from a friend that goes 'don't wait for the perfect opportunity. just take an opportunity and make it as perfect as you can!' people oft forgo many opportunities, waiting for the perfect one, and end up with none. instead of depending on luck, why not create luck. that way, you have the power to dictate your own life. i always believed luck is a talent. so people, make the best of every opportunity, and you're en route to success.
anyway, shall have an early night. foolishly dabbed moisturiser into my eye.

temptation
Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 8:21 PM
.random stuff(s)
'the only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.'i've been tempted too long, and i'm looking to get rid of it..rambling(s)if all you have to do to make someone's day is to press a button, and give a few seconds of your life away, will you do it? seems like not everyone will. to that bus uncle who drove away while i stood just beside the bus knocking at the door, thanks, hope i made your day. =).memorable(s)door to the lift was closing, i didn't even bother to run/shout out, but the kind indian kept it open just as the final slit was disappearing. every little things make me happy.bumped into dennis's sister at jurong point, she said i wear no.3 because i wanted to look like an officer, but 'sorry, you (me) don't look like an officer'. the bitter truth! i must look too lackadaisical to be an officer haha! i like people who initiates conversation with me when i don't, because that means they are friendly. i waved to her first, i'm friendly too!

just a stroke more and you win
Sunday, July 16, 2006, 11:21 PM
.random stuff(s)in tennis, it ain't about flashy techniques, nor is it about herculean strength or unrivaled dexterity. the most brilliant strategist or the most talented player doesn't always emerge victorious, either. in fact, tennis is simple - just one stroke more, and you are the winner.
this principle applies to many aspects of life.
disclaimer: i'm no tennis pro.rambling(s)respect is a funny thing. imagine yourself up on stage giving a speech. before you is a sea of faces, only thing is they are not looking in your direction. instead, they are busy chattering away amongst themselves, entirely oblivious to your presence. how'd you feel? not good, duh. it's okay if you do not hold the slightest respect for the speaker, but at the very least respect yourself and adhere to the simplest of protocol. zip thy mouth, or zeus shalt smite thee.
do not unto others what you want not others do unto you.

nothing is free in this world
Saturday, July 15, 2006, 10:04 PM
.random stuff(s)there's a saying that goes 'nothing is free in this world', but kenneth and i concluded that the sea is free, till he said 'no, the sea is land that we give up'..rambling(s)don't hesitate, just do what your heart says is right. if you like it, stay. otherwise, just walk away. bottomline - live your life with no regrets..memorable(s)sentosa day - dennis, kenneth, leeching, weetheng, weiyangat the hawker center, dennis came back from buying dessert/drink and -bragged- shamelessly that he managed to get a 50 ct extra change back! then a monk came around, dennis donated the 50 ct and called himself 'robin hood'!it's dennis again. this time round, we were having dinner at chinatown when one of those people selling packs of tissue paper came up. instead, dennis asked him if he wanted to buy this thing he made while playing around with pandan leaves and some satay sticks.
ms toh (our dearest teacher, leeching) gave him a B grade for his artwork. haha, dennis never fails to entertain the bunch. credit to kenneth for starting it though.

lassitude
Friday, July 14, 2006, 7:48 PM
.random stuff(s)
"Our frustration is greater when we have much and want more than when we have nothing and want some. We are less dissatisfied when we lack many things than when we seem to lack but one thing."
.rambling(s)
it's an irony how people always seem to do things they know will probably make them less happy, yet they persist. maybe it's that sliver of hope that things may turn out different and surprise them. sometimes it's better to not think at all, and just live every moment as it is. simple-minded people tend to be happier, i'm inclined to concur.
how do you tell someone that he's doing some totally unnecessary work without making him feel like a fool? maybe there's no way, just tell him he's a fool. when i ord, perhaps.
.memorable(s)
for the benefit of those who don't know, i work in a reservice unit. today's a charge date, as in, nsmen will be coming in to take orders for offences. one particular nsman is due for a vacation in the detention barracks, hah! sounds interesting? nah, i had to be the escort. ended up handcuffed to a guy with a stale breath, and the remnants of cigarette smoke lingering about him. nonetheless, it was a new experience to send someone to the db, they actually make him strip to the nuts in a room.

rebirth
Thursday, July 13, 2006, 6:23 PM
.random stuff(s) Q: what is the difference between 'ignorance' and 'indifference'? A: i don't know, and i don't care! .rambling(s) why do people keep going on about something even when disinterest is seemingly obvious? beats me. it gets annoying, yet it's not nice to ignore them completely. if only there's an 'appear offline' function in life. .memorable(s)
dad drove to some hawker center from work to buy food back for brother and i. went back to work after dinner. sidenote: mum was away playing mahjong (every thurs)
